When you are driving around from work to the store to home again, you need to ensure that you are safe on the road. You have to keep your car in the best possible condition and your car will be able to respond to your touch far better as a result. Whether you are driving through winter or you are out there on the road in the summer, your safety is paramount and more important than anything else.

You wouldn’t miss out on wearing snow shoes if you had to walk through thick snow, so why wouldn’t you make sure that your tires are in good condition? When you are driving home for Christmas this year, you have to check your Goodyear tires are still in good condition. No one wants to slip on the ice, right? Well, the best way to make sure that doesn’t happen is to learn what it looks like to need new tires – and here it is!

  • Know the tread. You need to have the right tread for your tires and that means checking the depth of the grooves in the rubber. Use a penny and you can tell if it’s deep enough. Put the penny into the tire tread and if you can see the head of the penny your tires need to be replaced. The tread is important and if it’s too shallow you risk skidding across the road – not ideal!
  • Know what tire wear and tear looks like. You need to think about the damage and wear that can happen over time and it does happen, especially if you’re driving on gravel roads. Tires can be damaged from this as well as your driving, so ensuring that you have the correct tires that aren’t too worn out is vital! Even something like the heat of the road can affect the way that your tires look and feel against the road, and that means replacing the tires.
  • Your tires are deflating. You shouldn’t be worrying about your tires running out of air when they’re on the road. Tires deflate around 1 PSI per month and when this happens, it’s normal. Any faster than this, and you need to get them replaced as there could be an issue you’re unaware of. Checking the tire pressure monthly is a smart move and keeps you informed about what your tires are experiencing month to month.
  • You’re noticing the ride feels much bumpier than usual! When you notice that your ride quality in your car isn’t the same as it used to be, you need to get your tires seen by an expert. Under and overinflated tires or tires that have become unevenly worn can be better looked after by a garage than at home.
  • Your tires are getting old. If it’s been more than a year since your last replacement, keep a closer eye on the tires. You should be able to use them up to a decade, but they may still need replacing before that time.
