Busy Bees,
BREAKFAST. At night. Infused with liquor? Don’t mind if I do! If you know me, you already know that I’m obsessed with breakfast food and can eat it at any hour of the day. I recently found out about Nighthawk: Breakfast Bar located in Venice, CA. It’s a restaurant/bar that serves cocktails and elevated breakfast fare for dinner.
When I arrived at Nighthawk, the manager, Tony Cicero, instantly greeted my friend and I and was very thrilled to have us. When it came to drinks our waiter, Cassandra, suggested I try the “Grow a Pear.” Pears are one of my favorite fruits and I had to give it a shot. The drink had pear vodka, elderflower liqueur, lemon juice and sparkling wine.
Now in regards to food, my friend tried the “Drunken French Toast.“ The highly anticipated dish contained Krispies coated brioche, pear brandy, pear compote, mascarpone, cardamon mouse, and syrup. I had the “Super Bowl” (one of their vegetarian dishes) that contained farro, scrambled eggs, seasonal mushrooms, roasted purple cauliflower, fire roasted poblano peppers, roasted tomatoes, arugula and cilantro oil. Bees…this vegetarian dish was exquisite enough to where I didn’t even need to add hot sauce.
After breakfast, Tony talked a little bit more about the restaurant and the inspiration behind the breakfast bar. I found out that the owner’s name is Jeremy Fall. He’s a Los Angeles local, grew up in a household with a mother who owned a local restaurant and a stepfather who was a chef. He got his professional start as a marketing & promotions manager of the Avalon in Hollywood, producing both large and small-scale events, as well as booking talent from all over the country for several years.
In 2014, he launched Genesis, a five-week pop-up concept that bridged the gap between bar and nightclub and went on to find a permanent home here in LA. Since then, he’s opened three more hits with two on the way. His drive and creativeness has landed him on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and making Eater’s list of “hottest restaurants in America”
Busy Bees, you must stop by Nighthawk if you are visiting or live in California. This is one after spot you can’t afford to miss!
